Doha Metro

Qatar Rail builds and services railways, subways and tram lines in the Emirate of Qatar. In order to ensure the eco-sustainability of the new road network  it has requested the contribution of leading foreign companies, including the PSC Group.

The modernization of Doha’s transport system was articulated on three fronts:

  • DOHA METRO: largely underground, to connect the different areas of Doha
  • LUSAIL LIGHT METRO TRANSIT (LLRT): a tram network to transport passengers inside the new Lusail City
  • LONG DISTANCE PASSENGERS AND FREIGHT RAIL: long-distance and  high-speed rail for transporting goods and passengers that will connect Doha with various Gulf countries.

The Doha Metro is one of the fastest driverless trains in the world (it reaches 100 km per hour) and  will serve both the capital and all major locations. The first phase involves the construction of three of the four lines (Red, Gold and  Green) and 37 stations. These lines are expected to be open to the public by 2020. Future steps include introducing an additional (blue) line and expanding the existing ones by 2026.

Known as  Education Line, as it passes through Education City, the Green Line extends from Al Riffa in the east to Mansoura in the west.  22 km long,  it includes  11 stations.
